PLEASE JOIN THE PTSA!

The PTSA is the Parent Teacher Student Association.  The purposes of the PTSA are to promote the welfare of children and youth; to raise the standards of home life, to secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth; to bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth; to develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.

The PTSA mission is to support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children; to assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; to encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.

At Vaughan, the PTSA strives to uphold the mission and purposes of the national PTSA, as well as create a positive impact in the Vaughan community.   The Vaughan PTSA works diligently with Vaughan administration, staff, and parents to assist the school in organizing events and coordinating special projects and improvements for the Vaughan community.  This would not be possible without YOUR membership to and involvement with the PTSA!

JOIN the PTSA!

The number one reason to join the Parent Teacher Association is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school. But there are many more advantages. Here are just a few:

·         Get Connected. There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school.

·         Discover Great Resources. The PTA offers a variety of programs designed for parents as well as students.

·         Tap into a Network. Parenting is not easy—it helps to share ideas, concerns and experiences with other parents and educators in the community. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind.

·         Watch Yourself Grow. By volunteering with your PTA, you gain valuable experiences. It’s an opportunity to put your skills and hobbies to good use for a good cause—your child and all children in the community.

·         Speak Up. Because the PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas, you are encouraged to make suggestions. PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child’s school.

·         Witness Improvement. By getting involved at your child’s school you’ll be part of the solution, helping make positive changes. Local PTAs play an important role in fundraising to provide building improvements, curriculum-based programs, and social events—all vital to a school’s success.

·         Be a Role Model. By becoming a PTA member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.

·         Money-Saving Offers and Discounts!  Use your PTSA membership card to take advantage of national, state, and local offers and discounts.  Visit www.georgiapta.org and click on the “Join PTA” heading to learn more.

Memberships are $5 per person and you are encouraged to purchase one for every member of your family.  The membership pays for itself!  With each $5 membership purchased, you will receive a coupon for a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich, a $10 coupon to Aspens, a $5 Stars and Strikes game card coupon, a free 30-day membership to Curves (for the first 150 members to join the PTSA on 8/3 and 8/4--not valid for existing Curves members), and other valuable offers.  Membership envelopes were in the packet your child's teacher gave out at Sneak-A-Peek.  If you need additional or replacement envelopes, please contact Kim Avery at kimavery@comcast.net.  To join the PTSA, simply fill out and return the envelope to the front office.  Your membership will be processed and you will receive your PTSA membership card(s) and other valuable coupons shortly thereafter.  Please contact Kim Avery, Membership Chairperson, at kimavery@comcast.net or 770-617-7346 for questions regarding PTSA membership.

GET INVOLVED with the PTSA!

In addition to joining the PTSA, you are encouraged GET INVOLVED by filling out the volunteer opportunity sheet at the bottom of the page and returning it to school with your child or emailing it to Michelle Letts (michelle@lettsfamily.com).  There are opportunities for everyone!  For volunteer questions, please contact Michelle Letts at michelle@lettsfamily.com or 404-694-2703.
